OGUN, Nigeria (NAN) - The Ogun state government, via its Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA), has shut down four companies for breaching environmental regulations.
Spokesman for the agency, Luke Adebesin, made this announcement in a statement on Wednesday in Abeokuta.
He quoted Farouk Akintunde, the special adviser to the governor on OGEPA, as emphasizing the necessity for all businesses to adhere to the operational and environmental standards established by the state.
The four companies affected include Fortune Height Farms Limited and Sanda Wood Industry Limited, both located in the Odogbolu Local Government area.
Shengceramic Material Limited is situated in the Ogere area along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, while Nehemiah Grace Developer Limited operates at Ijako in the Ado-Odo region of Ota Local Government.
The agency accused Fortune Height Farms Limited, engaged in egg and catfish production, of being sealed off after their host community filed a complaint about the discharge of untreated waste into the environment.
Sanda Wood Industry Limited faced closure for obstructing government officials from accessing its facility and conducting open burning activities. Nehemiah Grace Developer Limited was sealed for infringing on waterways and building drainage systems without the requisite state government approval.
The agency reiterated that the Ogun State government will not remain passive while these industries flout environmental laws.
