In the wee hours on Sunday morning, an alleged serial killer, rapist, and kidnapper, AbdulAzeez Ibrahim was reportedly arrested by the Ogun State Police Command in Imaweje, Ijebu-Ode.
The alleged crime lord was identified the second in command of the notorious Neo-Black Axe Movement, also known as the Aye Confraternity and taken into custody at approximately 2:30 am.
According to the command's spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, Ibrahim, also known as "Butcher," played a key role in the criminal activities of the confraternity, serving as both a leader and gunrunner. His arrest followed intelligence gathered by the Special Weapons and Tactics team, leading to the recovery of various weapons and charms from his hideout.
Odutola revealed, "Ibrahim, a final-year student at Tai Solarin University of Education in Ijegun, is a serial rapist and murderer wanted in a kidnapping case. He holds the gang weapons used to terrorize communities in Ijebu-Ode."
The seized items included a serviceable Beretta fully loaded with four rounds of live ammunition, a pump-action Rifle-Josef with 10 rounds of live cartridges, an English long double-barrel rifle, two locally made short single barrel rifles, one locally made short single barrel with two rounds of live ammunition, and assorted charms.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Alamutu Abiodun, has pledged to eradicate criminal elements, targeting syndicate groups involved in kidnapping, armed robbery, rape, and cultism.
Although, Ogun State has been grappling with a surge in cult activities and killings, with recent incidents in the Sagamu area resulting in fatalities and arrests.
However, the police have intensified efforts in recent months, conducting operations to curb the rise of cultism in the state.
In September 2023, the SWAT team arrested Ogunnibi Hammed, a suspected kingpin of the Eiye Confraternity, along with 18 other alleged gang members involved in gruesome attacks against rival cult groups.
