The Ogun State Government has distanced itself from a message circulating on social media platforms, which claims that Governor Dapo Abiodun is offering N10,000 cash palliative per person across the state.
The Special Adviser on Media and Communications to the Governor, Mr. Kayode Akinmade issued a statement in Abeokuta, the state capital, clarifying the government's position.
He stressed that the scam message also provides a link, encouraging individuals to apply for the alleged cash palliative and share the information for others to benefit.
Akinmade highlighted the administration's commitment to genuine alleviation of the citizens' suffering through various empowerment programs and policies rolled out since 2019, including the recently announced N5 billion intervention scheme.
Akinmade clarified that the Ogun State Government is not involved in any form of cash transfer program through the link provided in the scam message, stating that the link is fraudulent and unauthorized. He warned that attempting to access or provide personal information through this link poses a significant risk to individuals.
The government stressed that the information regarding government intervention programs and initiatives is sent through official channels, including government websites, press releases, and official social media handles. It advised the public to exercise caution and refrain from sharing such fraudulent messages.
The statement concluded by reaffirming the Ogun State government's commitment to improving the lives of its citizens during this challenging period and beyond, ensuring that any assistance provided is done in a manner that does not endanger the people.
Rumour had it that the Ogun State government had announced the distribution of the palliative on February 14.
