Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has sympathised with his Borno State counterpart, Prof. Babagana Zulum, and the people of the state over the flood that recently ravaged Maiduguri, the state capital.
The governor, in a statement on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, said the ravaging flood had caused a serious humanitarian crisis in the state, which required urgent support from all Nigerians.
He said while natural disasters of that nature were inevitable, a prompt response like that of the government of Borno and the Federal Government would go a long way in ameliorating the situation and bringing about immediate relief for the people.
The statement said, “I commiserate with my brother, Prof. Babagana Zulum, and the people of Borno State over the devastating flood in the state, which has resulted in a humanitarian crisis of high magnitude.
“The government and the people of Ogun State are with the Borno people during this period of agony, and we shall continue to pray for them."
At least 414,000 people were said to have been displaced and another 30 killed by the devastating flood in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital on Tuesday.
The National Emergency Management Agency said the flood began after the Alau Dam overflowed following heavy rains leading to the town’s worst flooding in 30 years, according to the United Nations Human Rights Refugee Council and Maiduguri Metropolitan Council residents.
