Peter Gregory Obi, the Labour Party's (LP) presidential candidate, and his party gave a confirmation to the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) on Thursday in Abuja that they will only contest the election results in 18 states.
They insisted that in places where they decisively and uncontestedly won, they would not waste their resources.
However, just six states' worth of verified election paperwork from the Independent National Election Commission (INEC) was submitted by Obi and his party at the conclusion of the proceedings.
Election results from polling units were allowed as exhibits, mostly Forms EC8A, to support their claimed election riggings and other irregularities.
Chief Emeka Okpoko SAN, who represented Obi and the Labour Party, submitted the documents, and the presiding justice of the court Haruna Simon Tsammani accepted them as exhibits.
In the meantime, Kemi Pinhero SAN, speaking on behalf of INEC, provided the documents and attested to their validity before suddenly announcing its objection to their acceptance.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his Vice, Kashim Shetima, who are the petition's second and third respondents and are represented by Adebayo Adelodun SAN, have also made suggestions that they challenge the electoral records' acceptance.
The All Progressives Congress, APC, asserted that it would object to the papers in a similar manner, and was represented by Chief Afolabi Fashanu, SAN.
According to a breakdown of the submitted and accepted papers, Forms EC8A were submitted in 15 Local Government Areas in Rivers State, 23 in Benue, 18 in Cross River, 23 in Niger State, 20 in Osun, and 16 in Ekiti.
The Court has rescheduled a hearing for the case for June 2 at the request of the two petitioners.
