Self-acclaimed Africa Giant, Burna Boy again made the playlist of Former President of the United States of America, Barack Obama
Fast rising star, Ayra Starr also made the summer playlist of the former US President In what has now become a tradition for the first black American president.
Announcing the 41 songs that made the cut, Obama revealed that Burna Boy's track 'Sittin' on Top of the World,' featuring British singer 21 Savage, and Ayra Starr's 'Sability' were among his top picks.
Taking to Twitter on Thursday, July 20, 2023, Obama shared, "Like I do every year, here are some songs I've been listening to this summer – a mix of old and new. Looking forward to hearing what I have missed."
Ayra Starr, overjoyed by her inclusion for the second time, responded, "‘Rush’ last year, ‘Sability’ this year! They will fall in line one by one."
This is not the first time Nigerian artists have made it to Obama's summer playlist. Last year, Burna Boy's 'Last Last,' Rema's 'Calm Down,' Ayra Starr's 'Rush,' and Pheelz's 'Finesse' featuring BNXN earned the coveted spots.
In previous years, Wizkid and Tems' 'Essence' featured in 2021, while 'Know Your Worth' by Khalid and Disclosure, featuring Davido and Tems, made the list in 2020.
Wizkid's 'Smile,' featuring H.E.R., and Burna Boy's 'Anybody' were part of the 2019 playlist. The recognition from the former US President is a testament to the global impact of Nigerian music on the international stage.
