ABUJA, Nigeria - The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, has declared that starting from March 2025, all Corps Members will receive a new monthly allowance of N77,000.
This decision comes six months after the Federal Government pledged to raise the allowance for Corps Members from N33,000 to N77,000.
The approval for the increase was outlined in a letter from the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission, dated September 25, 2024, and signed by the Chairman, Ekpo Nta, in line with the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024.
A statement from the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations of the Corps, Caroline Embu, quoted the NYSC DG expressing that both the Scheme and the Federal Government prioritize the welfare of Corps Members and will keep their well-being as a top priority.
The Director-General made this announcement while engaging with Corps Members at the NYSC Zonal Offices in Wuse and Garki, located in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
“General Nafiu thanked the Corps Members for their dedicated service to the nation and urged them to stay calm, committed, focused, and disciplined.
He praised the founding fathers of the Scheme for their vision and encouraged everyone to support the NYSC.
“General Nafiu emphasized that the NYSC is a remarkable initiative that fosters connections and allows graduate youths to learn about and appreciate the cultural values of regions outside of their birthplaces.
He noted that the Management will continue to promote the principles of patriotism, discipline, self-control, good morals, leadership abilities, and teamwork among successive cohorts of Corps Members.
“‘Starting from March, you will be receiving Seventy-Seven Thousand Naira monthly as your allowance. The NYSC is diligent with record-keeping, and I assure you that your payments will be made. The Nation and the Scheme value your contributions,’” he stated.
