LAGOS, Nigeria (NAN) - The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has called on political parties and their representatives to demonstrate sportsmanship in the upcoming local government election scheduled for July 12 in Lagos State.
In a recent interview with reporters, the president of NULGE in Lagos State, Sunday Ogunforowa, emphasized the importance of acting responsibly and respecting the people's choice, as it is the electorate who will determine their leaders.
He highlighted that the focus should be on the voters' preferences rather than party interests, urging political parties and their representatives to support the candidates chosen by the public and to celebrate their success.
“We expect everyone to adopt a spirit of sportsmanship on election day. It’s not the political party that decides; rather, it’s the populace that selects their leaders.
“Whomever the public decides to lead, others should accept it and understand that if it’s not their time to win today, there is always tomorrow. “Lagos State has been conducting local government elections for some time now.
This isn't the first or second time, and it’s been recognized as the best in the history of local government elections in Nigeria.
“As the LASIEC chairman rightly stated, there has been significant improvement compared to previous elections.
Our expectations are high, and we trust that standards will be upheld,” said the president.
He urged voters to come out in large numbers to cast their ballots, ensure their votes are counted, document the process, and then safely return home.
Ogunforowa also encouraged voters to support each other and pray for a peaceful and successful election.
