The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, or NSCDC, announced on its official Facebook page on Saturday that the NSCDC Commandant General's Special Intelligence Squad had successfully apprehended five individuals and seized a haul of 5,500 liters of automotive gas oil (diesel) in Oguta, Imo State.
The NSCDC confirmed this while sharing some photos of the operation, which showed the seized diesel containers and four saloon cars impounded during the operation.
The statement reads; “The Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad (CG SIS) arrested five suspects, impounded four saloon cars, and confiscated about 5,500 liters of suspected illegally refined AGO being transported to Onitsha from the Obah Agwa autonomous community in Oguta, Imo State,”
Recall that four people were also detained by the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Anambra State Command, for damaging the armored cable that supplies electricity to the Chinua Achebe International Airport in Umueri.
Corps agents apprehended the suspects, who were said to specialize in vandalizing armored wires and other electrical facilities on November 4, 2023.
The state commandant of the NSCDC, Edwin Osuala, who paraded the suspects in Awka on Friday, stated that the arrest was made possible by prompt and reliable intelligence that an astute Awka resident gave to the Corps.
The Investigation and Intelligence Department was instructed by the State Commandant to initiate the process of capturing any more fugitive suspects related to the crime.
Osuala disapproved of the state's power installation vandals, branding them as economic saboteurs and threatening to prosecute anyone found in violation of the law.
