The Apapa Water Works, which produces 2.4 million gallons per day, has been revived by the Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA.
At a transfer ceremony at the facility on Thursday, Mohammed Bello Koko, the managing director of NPA, stated that it had been vacant since 2012.
He said the facility will assist to meet the demands of Nigerians in the Apapa neighborhood.
The proposal to revive the Apapa Water Works, which had been dormant since 2012, was swiftly approved since, according to him, "responding to the existential needs of our operating environment is top priority on our Corporate Social Responsibility agenda."
Following the procurement and deployment of a first-of-its-kind in Africa by NPA for effective waste management, the Accident and Emergency Ward at the Apapa General Hospital underwent a similar refurbishment.
The facility's rehabilitation was praised by the Apapa Local Government Chairperson, Hon. (Mrs.) Idowu Shebanjo, and representatives of the Apapa Residents Association.
