The Nigerian Ports Authority recently engaged in discussions with the Barge Operators Association of Nigeria in a bid to facilitate smooth transportation of export cargo from the hinterland to the seaports.
The Managing Director of NPA, Mohammed Bello-Koko, revealed this during a meeting with the President of BOAN, Olubunmi Olumekun.
The NPA issued a statement on Tuesday confirming this development. Bello-Koko emphasized that the initiative has led to significant employment opportunities and business growth through the use of waterways to alleviate pressure and congestion on the road network.
The meeting primarily focused on extending support to enhance the efficiency of barge operations.
Bello-Koko emphasized that the meeting also addressed the importance of professionalism in order to guarantee the safety of lives and investments at all times.
He stated that their goal is to achieve smooth connectivity between the seaports and the hinterland through their unwavering commitment.
Bello-Koko stated that this initiative is aimed at supporting the continued growth of exports in the nation. It is important to remember that the use of barges to transport cargo from ports to the inland areas was a proactive measure implemented by the NPA.
