The North-East Governors’ Forum expressed concerns about the neglect of the region and the overwhelming absence of the Federal Government during their 10th meeting in Bauchi State.
In a communique signed by NEGF Chairman, Prof Babagana Zulum, the Forum urged the Federal Government to prioritize the region's development.
They reiterated their concern over the lack of allocation of Federal Government capital projects in the North-East, particularly the poor state of infrastructure such as roads and railways.
The Forum highlighted the deplorable state of the Enugu to Maiduguri road and the destruction of the Enugu to Maiduguri railway, which are crucial for regional trade, integration, peace-building, and national unity.
They said the region is not included in the National Infrastructure Plan for the transition from PMS to Compressed Gas.
“The Forum is urging the Federal Government to investigate the issue and contemplate the rebuilding of essential infrastructure along the Enugu-Maiduguri Economic Corridor, as well as the incorporation of Northeast in all national development plans and programs."
