ABUJA, Nigeria - The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has reaffirmed its dedication to promoting national unity, encouraging civic responsibility, and educating Nigerians on important socio-economic matters.

The Director-General of NOA, Lanre Issa-Onilu, made this declaration on Saturday during his remarks at the 8th Annual Ramadan Lecture Series, organized by the Ashraaf Islamic Foundation in Abuja.

The lecture's theme was “Ramadan Lesson on Food Security: Building Nigeria’s Path to Sustainable Economic Growth and Development.” Issa-Onilu, represented by the deputy director of planning research and statistics at NOA, Audu Mayo, emphasized the critical importance of food security for the nation and humanity.

"The NOA is devoted to nurturing national unity, fostering civic responsibility, and raising awareness among Nigerians about crucial socio-economic issues, including food security. Food security transcends mere economic or agricultural issues; it is a vital component of national development and social stability. A well-nourished society correlates with higher productivity, making access to affordable, nutritious food essential for national progress and peace," stated the NOA DG.

He further noted that Ramadan teaches us compassion, sacrifice, and community involvement. "During our fast, we are reminded of those who suffer from hunger daily, not by their choice but because of food scarcity, poverty, and economic hardships."

The NOA leader also urged a collective effort from the government, religious bodies, private organizations, and individuals to promote sustainable agricultural methods, minimize food waste, and support policies that ensure food sufficiency for all Nigerians. He reiterated that the NOA remains steadfast in its mission to educate and mobilize Nigerians towards behavioral change and national advancement.

He encouraged citizens to adopt practices that bolster food security, such as supporting local farmers and responsible consumption. "We also call on religious and community leaders to persist in advocating for policies that assist the vulnerable and guarantee that no Nigerian goes to sleep hungry. As we contemplate during this sacred month, let us recommit to building a nation where no one is marginalized. May Allah (SWT) bless our efforts, grant us wisdom in leadership, and reinforce our determination to achieve food security for all," Issa-Onilu prayed.

Additionally, Sarafudeen Aliagan, in his welcoming address, stated that the foundation was created to promote Islam and serve humanity. Mr. Aliagan characterized the Ramadan lecture as comprising five programs within a single event, mentioning that one of the foundation's humanitarian efforts includes empowering the needy, beggars, individuals with disabilities, and unemployed youth.
