The former spokesperson for Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Laolu Akande, claims that there is no reason for anyone to assume that Osinbajo has stepped away from the political scene or resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Akande shared this perspective while speaking with reporters on Sunday in Lagos.
It is worth noting that Osinbajo has not been actively involved in various political events since leaving office in 2023, which has led to speculation about his possible withdrawal from the APC and politics overall.
Recall that the former Vice President took part in the APC primary in 2022 but was unable to secure the party’s nomination, ultimately losing to President Bola Tinubu.
He served as Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Lagos State from 1999 to 2007 during Tinubu’s governorship.
Meanwhile, some political analysts have suggested that Osinbajo’s diminished participation in political affairs may stem from his defeat in the APC primary, while others argue that he is dedicating less time to politics due to his recent appointment as Global Advisor for the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP).
When asked about his former principal’s political status, Akande chose not to share personal views on Osinbajo’s situation.
He stressed that Osinbajo has not indicated any desire to exit politics and, to his knowledge, remains a member of the APC.
Akande also mentioned that Osinbajo would attend any APC event that requires his presence.
“I don’t want to involve the man (Osinbajo) in my own commentary, but there is no reason to believe that he is no longer in the APC.
He is still a member of the APC. If he receives an invitation to the caucus, he will be there. I don’t think he has left the party,” Akande stated.
