The Nigeria Labour Congress has announced its intention to push for a minimum wage of N250,000 during a scheduled meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja on Thursday(Today).
The Head of Public Affairs of the NLC, Benson Upah, stated that the organization will stand firm on its proposal for N250,000 during the meeting with the President, emphasizing the rising cost of living.
This meeting follows President Tinubu's commitment to engage with stakeholders on the issue of minimum wage, as mentioned in his Democracy Day speech on June 12, 2024.
The Federal Executive Council, chaired by the President, recently postponed discussions on the new minimum wage to allow for further consultations with stakeholders before presenting an executive bill to the National Assembly.
The Tripartite Committee on Minimum Wage recommended N62,000 as the new minimum wage, while Labour proposed N250,000, citing the current food inflation and its impact on the cost of living.
