ABUJA, Nigeria - The National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) has emphasized the importance of engaging the private sector to enhance water transportation in the nation.
During a familiarization visit at NIWA's liaison office in Abuja, the Board Chairman, Musa Sarkin-Adar, mentioned that the government cannot manage this task alone.
He encouraged NIWA to remove wooden boats to reduce the risk of boat accidents across the country’s waterways.
Sarkin-Adar urged the Managing Director of NIWA, Bola Oyebamiji, and his team to strive towards establishing a significant legacy.
He expressed gratitude for having a knowledgeable and committed team, stating that he cannot take full credit for their achievements alone.
He also urged the authority to enhance connections between other states via water transportation.
In addition, Oyebamiji praised his management team's efforts in advancing the inland waterways transportation sector.
