The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has registered 12,948 Nigerian startups, 912 venture capitalists, 1,735 angel investors, and 925 accelerators through its startup portal.
This registration aligns with the Nigeria Startup Act, signed into law in October 2022 by former President Muhammadu Buhari. The registration portal was opened in November 2023.
NITDA has invited Nigerian startups to register on the platform, stating that registration will make them eligible for statutory incentives, resources, and opportunities.
The Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, highlighted that the portal will enable the government to establish startup consultative forums and select representatives for the National Council for Digital Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
This will facilitate discussions and consensus among Nigerian ecosystem players.
Dr. Tijani expressed his delight at the deployment of the Nigeria Startup Portal, emphasizing that it will provide a platform for discussing issues affecting startups and defining actions to be taken by the government and other stakeholders.
He encouraged members of the ecosystem to visit the platform and register.
Former President Buhari signed the Nigeria Startup Bill 2022 into law on October 19, 2022, aiming to eliminate legal uncertainties in the startup industry and establish criteria for obtaining startup status.
