Nine Minors Flee Pennsylvania Juvenile Centre After Riot

POSTED ON November 8, 2023 •   World      BY Segun Adewole
Officials in the state of Pennsylvania are actively searching for nine minors who escaped from a juvenile detention center following a riot that occurred on Sunday night, according to law enforcement reports. Pennsylvania State Police, along with other law enforcement agencies, have initiated efforts to locate the escaped juveniles who fled Abraxas Academy around 8:00 PM, as stated by Trooper David Beohm of the state police on the social media platform X. Beohm provided a description of the escaped individuals, saying they should be wearing gray pants or shorts along with a gray shirt. He urged the public to immediately call 911 if they encounter someone matching this description. In response to the incident, authorities established a perimeter around the youth detention facility, which is located in Morgantown, southern Pennsylvania. The Caernarvon Township Police Department issued a separate statement on Sunday, confirming that a riot had taken place at Abraxas Academy. However, they also reported that law enforcement on-site had successfully regained control of the juvenile detention center. Abraxas Academy offers a range of services, including detention facilities and a residential treatment program designed to provide specialized care for delinquent male youth aged 14 to 18, according to its website. The facility is situated approximately 15 miles (24 kilometers) west of a rural Pennsylvania town where authorities recently captured escaped murderer Danilo Cavalcante. The 34-year-old Brazilian national had been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his girlfriend and had managed to evade capture for two weeks, despite extensive efforts from law enforcement agencies, including the FBI and Border Patrol. Cavalcante was eventually apprehended with the assistance of a police dog.
