Report has it that about nine people died from the devastating accident that occurred along the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway.
The accident which involved a truck and a Mazda bus at Kere Bridge, has resulted in the loss of nine lives, with seven others sustaining injuries.
The incident, which occurred at approximately 8:00 am on Tuesday, has sent shockwaves through the region.
Confirming the tragedy, the spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun State, Mrs. Florence Okpe disclosed that among the deceased were five adult males and four adult females.
However, Okpe added that they had transferred the injured victims from the tragic accident to General Hospital, Ijaye.
She also mentioned that they had deposited the deceased at the same hospital's morgue in Abeokuta, Ogun state capital.
The collision involved a truck, which was not carrying a registration number, and a Mazda bus bearing registration number SMK808YD. Excessive speed and driving against traffic regulations were the cause of the accident, according to the investigation.
Quoting the sector commander, Anthony Uga, Okpe reiterated the FRSC's warning against route violations and excessive speed, highlighting the severe risks associated with these offenses. Uga urged the motorists to prioritize safety and adhere to traffic regulations to prevent accidents and loss of life.
He emphasized the need for motorists to avoid route violations and speeding, emphasizing the grave risks associated with these offenses.
As investigations into the accident continue, authorities are urging all road users to prioritize safety by obeying traffic rules and regulations. The investigations stated that 17 victims were involved in the crash, with seven injured people.
