DELTA, Nigeria - The Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) in Delta has reported the destruction of a site used for illegal oil refining in the Obotebe community of Burutu Local Government Area.
The NNS commander, Commodore Abdulazeez Zubairu, revealed this information while addressing journalists in Warri on Saturday.
He noted that navy personnel discovered the illegal refining site on Thursday, which was then destroyed as part of Operation Delta Sanity 11, initiated under the guidance and strategic orders of the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Adm. Emmanuel Ogalla.
Zubairu emphasized that this action continues the campaign against crude oil theft, illegal oil refining, and pipeline vandalism within the NNS operational areas.
“On June 19, 14 personnel from NNS Delta were dispatched with gunboats and speedboats for the operation.
The team arrived in the Obotebe community in Burutu Local Government Area, where they found a site used for illegal refining activities, and it was promptly destroyed,” he stated.
He added that the operation resulted in the recovery of one 1.5 HP Yamaha engine, a power-generating set, six pumping machines, and two rolls of hose from the site.
