Nigerian-American Michael Nsien has thrown his hat into the ring for the vacant Super Eagles head coach position.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is currently searching for a permanent replacement for Jose Peseiro, whose contract recently expired.
Nsien is currently coaching the United States U-19 men's national team., he believes that his qualifications and experience make him the ideal candidate to lead the Super Eagles.
He faces competition from former Nigerian internationals Emmanuel Amuneke and George Finidi, along with other unnamed hopefuls.
Despite residing in the United States, Nsien, who hails from Eket in Akwa Ibom State, insists he understands the Nigerian football landscape.
"I can bridge the gap and help us reach the level that we should be at in world football," Nsien declared at a press conference in Abuja. "It's time to change course and move forward. I want to put smiles on the faces of our people."
Nsien's coaching career began with the U.S. U-16 team in 2022. Before that, he served as an assistant coach and later head coach for the Tulsa Roughnecks.
His playing career saw him perform as a left fullback at the University of Dayton, where he scored nine goals in 73 appearances between 1999 and 2003.
