Nigerian actress Somkele Iyamah-Idhalama is thrilled to be joining the cast of the American science fiction television series Star Trek: Discovery.
The actress plays a significant role in the Paramount+ adventure drama series as 'The Progenitor' in the tenth episode of the fifth season, 'Life, Itself'.
Filled with pride and enthusiasm, the Delta State-born film star and model turned to Instagram to share the news with her fans.
The graduate of biochemistry also shared how her experience was auditioning for the show, captioned her post: "Guess who and guess where…it’s yours truly on the set of @startrekonpplus as ‘The Progenitor’. Interesting fact: I auditioned for this show for a good minute. Finally got a cool role then," she captioned her post.
Somkele is well-known for his role as one of the surviving doctors who contracted Ebola in Nigeria in the movie 93 Days, directed by Steve Gukas. Her outstanding portrayal of the character earned her numerous accolades, including the ELOY Award for Best Actress of the Year, the AMVCA Trailblazer Award, and the Future Awards Africa Prize for Acting.
She is well recognized for playing Yemisi Disu in the romantic comedy drama films The Wedding Party (2016), directed by Kemi Adetiba, and The Wedding Party 2 (2017), directed by Niyi Akinmolayan.
