Super Falcons Put on Commanding Performance to Clinch Victory Against Australia Women
The Super Falcons of Nigeria pulled off a stunning 2-3 victory over Australia in their match of the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup on Thursday, July 27, 2023.
The match involving the two teams in Group B was a tightly contested affair, with both teams creating chances. However, it was the Super Falcons who took their chances better, with a late equalizer goal in the first half from Uchenna Kanu (45+6').
Osinachi Ohale scored another goal in the 65' minute of the second half, before Asisat Oshoala sealed the match with another impressive goal at the 72' minute.
Although Australia's Alanna Kennedy pulled one back in the late extra minute of second half (90+10'), the Super Falcons held on for the win putting the final score at 2-3.
The victory was a major statement from the Super Falcons, who showed that they are one of the favorites to win the tournament. It was also a historic day for Oshoala, who became the first Nigerian to score at three different editions of the FIFA Women's World Cup.
She is the first Nigerian player and the second African player to achieve this feat, after Cameroon’s Gaëlle Enganamouit.
