Nigeria’s men’s handball team coach, Rafiu Salami, has said that his team would do their best against their tough group opponents, Egypt, in their final group match on Sunday.
The Golden Arrows on Friday, qualified for the semi-final of the Handball event at the 13th Africa Games which is ongoing in Ghana following their 30-18 victory over Mali.
Salami’s side knew their job was to get an emphatic victory against Mali who had lost to Egypt in their previous match with a large goal margin, and they came through with a resounding victory despite a few turnovers.
Coach Salami, while speaking to the press after the match, said despite the initial struggle his team had in the first half, they came back into their element and won well enough to qualify for the semi-final.
He also said ahead of their final group match against Egypt, the plan is to ensure they get a good result so that they can lead the group to get a favourable draw in the semi-final.
“In the first half we struggled against some factors such as certain referee decisions and against a good Mali team but we came up into our element and won which is very important for our growth,” Coach Salami said
“Up next is a tough one against Egypt which will be tough and even though we are missing some certain experienced players in our team such as Obinna Annih, we will ensure we do our best against them and top the group.”
He also said his team will work hard to finish on the podium and get at least a bronze.
