The Federal Government of the United States of America has overcome the passport production situation, and the three missions have resumed passport services.
According to a public notice posted at the Nigerian Embassy in Washington, DC, all passport applicants who were scheduled for biometrics previously are expected to appear at the mission on Monday.
The notice read, “This is to inform all passport applicants scheduled for biometric capture from Monday, November 13 to Thursday, November 16, that they have been rescheduled.
“It has been rescheduled to be held from Monday, November 20, to Wednesday, November 22 2023. The affected applicants can come to the Embassy on any of the days.
“The change of schedule is due to the internet outage experienced at the Embassy, and we regret any inconveniences this might have caused.’’
Confirming this development, a source in the Embassy reported that the problem was resolved over the weekend.
The source, who spoke anonymously, said that the problem was internet-related, not a server issue, noting that since the server is connected to the Embassy internet, anything that happens to the internet also disconnects the other centers.
According to the source, the professionals in Nigeria collaborated with local ICT experts at the Embassy, and they were all able to resolve the issue.
In the United States, Nigeria maintains three missions. They are the Nigerian Consulates-General in New York and Atlanta, as well as the Nigerian Embassy in Washington, DC.
The embassy in Washington, DC is the only passport production facility in the United States. In contrast, consulates collect biometric data from their missions and send it to Washington, DC for passport manufacture.
