The upcoming movie Customs Frontline, which opens in theaters on the Chinese mainland this Friday, will include Hong Kong star Nicholas Tse in a leading action choreography role.
The gripping film chronicles the daring worldwide journey taken by Hong Kong customs officers when they find illicit firearms on a cargo ship.
The film's major cast, including Tse, actresses Karena Lam and Liu Yase, and actor Kenny Kwan, attended the premiere event, which took place in a Beijing theater. Legendary musician Jacky Cheung also makes his big-screen comeback after an eight-year absence, this time as a customs officer struggling with major depressive disorder.
Tse disclosed that his fascination with maritime themes was why he was drawn to Customs Frontline, particularly in light of Hong Kong's distinct coastline character.
He also emphasized the importance of performing real stunts, citing it as a cherished tradition propelling Hong Kong films to acclaim internationally. Despite the growing use of special effects in the modern film industry, Tse believes Hong Kong filmmakers should continue to value and uphold this tradition.
"Many Western movies have learned to craft action choreography from Hong Kong films," Tse said, highlighting the need to preserve this legacy.
