Neymar, a forward for Paris Saint-Germain, has been suspended for the remainder of the campaign due to an upcoming surgery to repair ankle ligaments that will keep him sidelined for at least three months, the Ligue 1 team said on Monday, March 6.
Since being carried off the field during his team's 4-3 victory over Lille last month, Neymar, who has 13 goals and 11 assists in Ligue 1 this season, has been absent from PSG's previous two matches.
Neymar Jr. has experienced multiple instances of instability in his right ankle recently, according to a statement released by PSG.
"Following his last sprain contracted on Feb. 20, the medical staff ... recommended a ligament repair operation to avoid a major risk of recurrence. All the experts consulted have confirmed this necessity."A delay of three to four months is expected before his return to training."
He would have the surgery in Doha, Qatar, according to PSG.
With an eight-point advantage over second-placed Marseille, PSG is the league's best team. They are behind 1-0 going into their match against Bayern Munich on Wednesday in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16.
