Serena Williams announced her pregnancy on the red carpet at the Met Gala 2023.
The tennis champion, who is already a mother to daughter Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr., was glowing in a Gucci gown that showed off her baby bump.
Williams told Vogue's live stream from the event that she was "excited" when Anna Wintour invited her to the Met Gala, knowing that she would be able to share her pregnancy news with the world.
"I was excited when Anna Wintour invited me, and I thought, 'Oh, my God, this is the perfect opportunity to share,'" she said. "I'm not hiding, I can breathe, I can stop–not hiding, but."

Williams' pregnancy is the latest in a string of baby announcements at the Met Gala.
Karlie Kloss also revealed that she is expecting her second child with husband Joshua Kushner, and supermodel Gigi Hadid showed off her baby bump in a custom Versace gown.
Williams' pregnancy is a joyous occasion for her and her family. She and Ohanian welcomed their first child in 2017, and they have been open about their desire to have more children.
"We definitely want more kids," Williams said in a 2018 interview. "We're just not sure when."
Williams' pregnancy is also a major moment for the tennis world. She is one of the greatest players of all time. Serena retired from professional tennis in September 2022.
She won her last Australian Open in 2017, making her a 23 Grand Slam title winner.

The Met Gala is a major fashion event that takes place every year in New York City. It is known for its over-the-top costumes and celebrity guests.
This year's theme was "In America: An Anthology of Fashion," and the dress code was gilded glamour.
Williams' Gucci gown was designed by Alessandro Michele and was inspired by the work of Karl Lagerfeld.
It was a white tulle gown with a high neck and a long train. Williams accessorized with a diamond necklace and earrings.
Ohanian, who is the co-founder of Reddit, was also dressed in Gucci. He wore a black tuxedo with a white shirt and a black bow tie.

“Karl never disappointed with his designs, so we’re both just so happy to be here and get inside and not drink,” she joked.
