The newly appointed Commissioner of Police for Delta State command, Mr. Abaniwonda Olufemi, has pledged to intensify efforts to combat criminal activities within the state.
CP Olufemi made the vow on Wednesday during his resumption and induction service into the position.
In his speech, Olufemi emphasized his commitment to bolstering existing security measures to ensure the safety and protection of lives and property for all residents of the state.
Assuring the populace that the command under his leadership would not tolerate criminal elements, Olufemi stated, "I want to assure you that under my watch as CP, the state will become uncomfortable for criminals. I came to the state with the mandate to carry out basic police duties for people to sleep with their two eyes closed."
In a bid to mobilize community support in the fight against crime, he urged the youth to resist involvement in criminal activities and encouraged the public to collaborate closely with law enforcement agencies for the establishment of a crime-free society.
Olufemi brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having served in various capacities within the police force, including as the 2 I/C Squadron Commander Police Mobile Force in Jos from 1996 and as Squadron Commander at MOPOL 8 Jos from 2002 to 2005.
Meanwhile, in his farewell address, outgoing Commissioner AIG Wale Abass expressed gratitude to the State Government and the people of Delta for their cooperation during his tenure. He urged continued support for his successor in maintaining law and order across the state.
Recall that the outgoing Commissioner AIG Wale Abass was recently promoted to the Police Force headquarters in Abuja.
