Meanwhile, Bolivia has announced the severance of diplomatic relations with Israel, citing concerns over what it has labelled "disproportionate" Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip. Deputy Foreign Minister Freddy Mamani made this declaration during a press conference. In a show of support for the people affected by the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Bolivia also announced plans to send humanitarian aid to the region.
Minister of the Presidency Maria Nela Prada, at the same press conference, called for an immediate cessation of attacks in the Gaza Strip, which have led to a significant loss of civilian lives and the forced displacement of Palestinians.
Bolivia's decision marks the first time in Latin America that a government has cut diplomatic ties with Israel since the outbreak of the recent conflict triggered by Hamas attacks on October 7. Israeli authorities report that these attacks resulted in over 1,400 casualties.
