The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has approved the payment of tuition fees for over 70,000 students in federal tertiary institutions whose loan applications have been accepted.
An additional 50,000 students are currently being evaluated for possible approval within the next 30 days.
It is expected that no fewer than 1.2 million students in federal tertiary institutions will benefit from the loan.
In addition, students in state-owned tertiary institutions are expected to be included in the program starting on 25th June, 2024.
A total of N35 billion has been approved for payment across 124 federal tertiary institutions, with an average of 1,500 applications received daily.
The fund will continue to accept applications from both federal and state institutions, with disbursement of funds expected to occur soon.
