LAGOS, Nigeria - The Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) has announced its readiness to host five participating nations for the International Cricket Council (ICC) Under 19 Men’s World Cup African Qualifier.
The event is set to take place in Lagos, with matches scheduled at the cricket ovals in Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) and the University of Lagos (Unilag) from March 26 to April 6.
The President of the federation, Uyi Akpata, expressed excitement in a statement on Sunday, emphasizing that the tournament highlights the progress of cricket on the continent. “Nigeria is excited to welcome these skilled young cricketers and their fans to Lagos.
Our country is known for its warm hospitality and rich cricketing potential, and we aim to ensure this qualifier is a memorable event for everyone involved. This tournament goes beyond just competition; it is a celebration of cricket's development in Africa and a source of inspiration for the upcoming generation of players,” Akpata remarked.
According to report Kenya, Uganda, Namibia, Tanzania, and Sierra Leone will compete alongside Nigeria for the continent’s only spot in the 2026 ICC Under 19 Men’s World Cup.
Nigeria is eager to clinch the ticket, having accomplished this in 2019 and participated in the World Cup held in South Africa in 2020.
