The Governor of Nasarawa State,Engr. Abdullahi Sule, officially opened the renovated Akwanga Youth Centre and phase two township road in Akwanga Local Government Area.
The event was graced by the former Governor of Bauchi State, Alh. Ahmadu Adamu Mu’azu.
The Youth Centre was dedicated to Elder Suleiman Jakonda, a prominent Mada son, while the road project was named after Hajiya Halima Sulaiman Rabiu, the mother of the former Governor of Bauchi State.
Governor Sule emphasized that the projects were named after these individuals to honor their significant contributions to Akwanga Local Government Area and Mada land.
He encouraged young people to make use of the facility to advance in their endeavors.
The township road will provide access to the facility and surrounding areas.
Furthermore, the Governor distributed free fertilizers to underprivileged farmers in Akwanga Local Government, courtesy of the Federal Government.
Former Governor Mu’azu commended Governor Sule for his humility, accountability, transparency, capacity, and capability, expressing his pride in being associated with him.
The Nasarawa State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Jafaru Ango, expressed gratitude to the Governor for prioritizing youth development and programs.
He highlighted that the Akwanga Youth Centre, initially constructed in 1978 and last renovated in 1998, now features a large multi-purpose hall, accommodation rooms, operational offices, restaurant, and alternative power generating set.
Other notable personalities present at the commissioning ceremony included the outgoing Polish Ambassador to Nigeria, Her Excellency Joanna Tarnawska, and the Chun Mada, Pastor Samson Gamu Yare.
Dignitaries in attendance also included former Governor of old Plateau State, Colonel Habibu Shuaibu, and the Secretary to the Nasarawa State Government, Barr. Muhammad Aliyu-Ubandoma.
It was reported that the Nasarawa State Government awarded the contract for the renovation of the Akwanga Youth Centre to a local contractor.
