Going by the wave of increasing food products, the National Association of Nigerian Students have called on the government to establish a Price Control Board to regulate food prices in the country.
The current media personnel to the NANS Senate President, Adejuwon Emmanuel, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.
The association stated that despite a decrease in the exchange rate, the prices of goods produced domestically continued to soar.
It, therefore, urged the government to alleviate the burden by creating price control.
The statement partly read, “The recent escalation in prices has sent shockwaves through communities, exacerbating the financial strain already faced by many.
“What troubles us most is the apparent disconnect between the fluctuating exchange rates and the unyielding rise in local commodity prices. How is it that despite a decrease in the exchange rate, the prices of goods produced domestically continue to soar?
“As concerned Nigerian students, we are not merely bystanders in this predicament; we are advocates for change. We fervently call upon the government to establish a price control board tasked with the responsibility of regulating prices, preventing hoarding of goods, and shielding consumers from exorbitant prices.
“Such a board would serve as a beacon of hope, ensuring fairness and transparency in our marketplace and fostering an environment where every Nigerian can afford the basic necessities of life.”
