Nigerian singer Naira Marley has taken legal action against actress Iyabo Ojo, alleging libel and seeking ₦500 million in damages, along with a public apology.
The move comes in response to an Instagram post by Ojo in September 2023 following the death of Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa 'Mohbad' Aloba where Marley claims he was defamed.
In a letter dated December 12, 2023, Marley's legal representative, Lekan Ojo, accused the actress, known for her role on The Real Housewives of Lagos, of implicating his client in the unfortunate incident involving the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa ‘Mohbad’ Aloba.
The letter contends that Ojo's comments led the public to believe that Naira Marley played a role in Mohbad’s death which led to a load of bashful comments by his fans, colleagues and the general public. Marley's legal team demands that Ojo retract her statements within seven days of receiving the letter, cautioning of legal consequences if compliance is not met.
Furthermore, the letter insists that the public apology be published on Iyabo Ojo's official Instagram account within a stipulated timeframe. The unfolding legal battle adds another layer of complexity to the ongoing controversy, as Naira Marley aims to defend his reputation against the allegations made by the actress.
It should be noted that the singer Mohbad was reported dead on September 12, 2023 and it was during that period that the actress made the accusations against Naira Marley and Sam Larry, saying there was video evidence to prove their level of involvement in the saga. Iyabo Ojo had made the statement during her visit to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa
