The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has declared its support for the re-election of Babajide Sanwo-Olu as governor of Lagos State. In a statement released on Monday, MURIC's director, Prof. Ishaq Akintola, said that Sanwo-Olu's first-term scorecard reveals "giant steps in critical areas" and that he is "the best option" for Lagosians, regardless of their religious background.
During his first term, Sanwo-Olu launched several projects, including the red and blue rail lines, the revamping of water transport, and the acquisition of high-capacity boats by the Lagos State Ferry Services. These developments are significant for Lagos, a megacity notorious for its traffic congestion.
In addition to transportation projects, Sanwo-Olu's administration also constructed over 308 roads, including the Pen Cinema flyover, Lekki-Epe-Ibeju road expansion, and the Lekki-VGC regional road. His efforts in combating the COVID-19 pandemic also earned him praise from the World Health Organization.
In the area of education, MURIC noted that Sanwo-Olu's administration offers free primary and secondary education in Lagos state, while tertiary institutions in the state have the lowest tuition fees.
MURIC appealed to Muslims in Lagos state, urging them to "regard the election this coming Saturday as an entirely different picture." They noted that "a vote for Sanwo-Olu is a vote for Tinubu, his mentor," and urged Muslims to vote for a Christian candidate, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, due to his "brilliant performance." They also reminded Muslims in Lagos state that Sanwo-Olu gave instructions for the issuance of the hijab circular in the state.
In conclusion, MURIC implored Lagosians to come out en masse to vote for Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Saturday, March 11th.
