Three mortified, unidentified corpses have been recently discovered by the Imo State Police Command and are suspected to be victims of kidnapping in a forest situated in Ihiagwa and Avu communities within the Owerri West Local Government Area.

The Public Relations Officer of the Imo State Police Command, ASP Henry Okoye, officially confirmed this revelation to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Owerri.

The shocking discovery came to light through a viral video circulating on social media, and the video reports that approximately four decomposing bodies were reportedly found in the forest by Imo hunters and forest guards.

Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma has taken swift action by directing a tactical team to comb through all bushes and forests in the area to uncover potential kidnappers and additional victims.

"Operatives of the Imo State Police Command Special Tactical Squad, under the leadership of Commissioner Aboki Danjuma, carried out a raid in a forest along the Avu-Ihiagwa communities, suspected to be a kidnappers' hideout. During the operation, five suspected kidnappers were apprehended, and three decomposing, unidentified corpses suspected to be kidnapping victims were recovered. The command plans to conduct further DNA confirmatory tests to establish the identities of the victims," revealed Okoye.

The intensified combing of the forest and other remote areas across the state is ongoing, aiming to eradicate all forms of crime and criminal activities. Okoye urged the public to promptly report any sensitive information that could aid law enforcement in arresting criminals, thereby contributing to the overall security and well-being of the state.
