The legal team representing the family of the late Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, also known as Mohbad, has raised concern that sensitive information about the deceased's death has been made public.
According to a statement received by PUNCH Metro on Sunday, one of the team's leaders, Taiwo Odumosu, believes such information should be made available to police rather than the public.
He also encouraged the public to come forward with any information that could help the inquiry into the singer's death.
The statement read, “Given the nature of the death of Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba (Mohbad), and the information being released to the public space which ordinarily should have been given to the police, the legal team to the Aloba family wishes to advise that anyone with useful and relevant information that could aid in the search for and the circumstances leading to the death of the singer should reach out to the Legal Team to facilitate proper legal connectivity.
"The police can also be contacted to ensure the safety and protection of witnesses and suspects.”
Odumosu also noted that the coroner’s inquest had issued witness summons, adding that the family was seeking assistance in gathering facts to determine what led to Mohbad’s untimely demise.
The statement further said, “Please, note that Joseph Aloba does not seek to pursue any personal or familiar relationships at this point. His whole interest is focused on getting to the bottom and finding out details as to what happened to his dear son and the circumstances that led to his untimely demise.
"The Coroner's Court is the ideal place for disclosing any material that could help the court's fact-finding role."
Mohbad died at 27 on September 12, 2023, and the circumstances surrounding his death sparked debate on social media.
Mohbad, a former record label signee of Marlian Music, founded by Naira Marley, quit the label in February 2022.
On September 18, 2023, the Lagos State Police Command formed a 13-man special investigation team to look into the singer's death.
