The protesters, dressed in white T-shirts, played and danced to the songs of Mohbad as a way to pay their last respects and tribute to the artist.
According to reports and video footage, teargas were allegedly used to disperse the protesters. There are conflicting accounts regarding who fired the teargas.
Some sources suggest it was police officers, while others claim it came from an unidentified group. It is mentioned that police officers were present at the event, securing the area,
Punch reports.
It's emphasized that the event was a candlelight procession and not a protest. The procession started at 5 pm and was followed by a tribute concert at Muri Okunola Park at 8 pm.
Efforts to reach the police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, for comment, were unsuccessful at the time of the report.
