Modular refineries On Sunday confirmed Aliko Dangote's concerns about mafias in the oil sector hindering in-country refining of crude oil for the production of petrol and other refined petroleum products.
The operators of modular refineries, represented by the Crude Oil Refinery Owners Association of Nigeria, emphasized that they had previously raised the issue without receiving positive feedback.
They echoed Dangote's recent statements and highlighted the impact of those mafias on the country's petroleum product supply and economy.
Dangote himself revealed that local and international cartels, which he referred to as "mafia", attempted to sabotage his $19bn refinery project in Lagos.
He expressed his determination to overcome those challenges during the Afreximbank Annual Meetings and AfriCaribbean Trade & Investment Forum in The Bahamas.
Dangote has been bringing in crude oil from the United States in order to obtain feedstock for the refinery.
