ABUJA, Nigeria (NAN) - The Minister of State for Finance, Doris Uzoka-Anite, urged women to take advantage of opportunities within the capital market to generate wealth.
Uzoka-Anite made this appeal during the launch of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Podcast on Monday in Abuja.
She emphasized that the government must implement additional policies, reforms, or frameworks to encourage greater female participation in the financial sector.
The minister highlighted that there are still policies that adversely affect the girl-child.
"Woman have proven to be adept at investing; we understand how to handle money. We know how to manage finances within the household, ensuring that resources benefit the entire family.
They simply require enhanced knowledge to make informed decisions when needed," she stated.
She encouraged women to seek out information regarding investments in the capital market.
"The capital market is open for business, and now is the time for women to engage as active participants. This podcast represents a significant step forward, and I am confident we will achieve our goals. I commend the Director-General for this initiative and assure the commission of our full support. A vibrant capital market relies on the number of active participants," she remarked.
The SEC's Director-General, Emomotimi Agama, earlier mentioned that the commission initiated the podcast to spread capital market information throughout the country.
He expressed the goal of helping people understand the capital market and the opportunities it offers.
"We aim to ensure that individuals in the most isolated regions of the nation are informed about the capital market and the ways they can engage to build wealth. We are particularly focused on increasing female participation in this market, and we hope this podcast will help us reach them," he explained.
