The federal government will be commissioning a 37-member committee for minimum wage on Tuesday. The committee is saddled with the responsibility of recommending a new national minimum wage for the country.
Nigeria’s president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved the committee and the Director of information, Mr. Segun Imohiosen gave the insight.
The inauguration will take place at 12:00 noon in the Council Chamber, Presidential Villa, State House, Abuja.
A former Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Alhaji Bukar Goni Aji is going to head the committee with members from the Federal Government, State Government, Private Sector, and Organised Labour.
Among the notable members from the Federal Government are, Hon. Minister of State, Labour and Employment; Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, Hon. Minister of Finance & Coordinating Minister of the Economy; Mr. Wale Edun, Hon. Minister of Budget Economic Planning; Alhaji Atiku Bagudu, Head of the Civil Service of the Federation; Dr. (Mrs) Yemi Esan, Permanent Secretary, GSO. OSGF; Dr. Nnamdi Maurice Mbaeri, and lastly, Esq, Chairman/CEO, NSIWC, Ekpo Nta, who also serves as the Member/Secretary.
From the State Governments, we have representatives that include Governors such as Alh. Mohammed Umar Bago (Niger State), Sen. Bala Mohammed (Bauchi State), Alh. Umar Dikko Radda (Katsina State), Prof. Charles Soludo (Anambra State), Sen. Ademola Adeleke (Osun State), and Mr. Otu Bassey Edet (Cross River State).
Individuals from Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA), Nigeria Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), National Association of Small and Medium Enterprise (NASME), and Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) represent the private sector.
From Organised Labour, representatives include Comrade Joe Ajaero of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), and Comrade (Engr) Festus Osifo of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), among others.
