There has been jubilation in Yola, Adamawa State capital, following the agreement to pay the new minimum wage of N70, 000 approved by the Federal Government.
Fintiri had, however, agreed with the state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress to review the workers’ wages to reflect the new minimum wage.
The NLC state chapter chairman comrade Emmanuel Fashe disclosed the governor’s decision after a three-hour closed-door meeting with him.
He said that the state workers would get their salaries of August based on the new approved minimum wage, but local government workers would wait till September salaries.
Fashe added that the 2019 consequential adjustment template would be used to calculate the new wage percentages, and the Accountant General’s office had been tasked with updating the August payroll .
Fashe explained that council workers might have to wait until September for their salary adjustments, pending the completion of the necessary review by the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission.
During the 2024 May day celebration, the governor had promised to pay any amount the Federal Government agreed with the NLC.
Following Fintiri’s promise to pay the minimum wage, residents and civil servants took to the street to express joy over the fulfillment of the pledge.
