Microsoft has announced a significant investment of 33.7 billion Swedish crowns ($3.21 billion) to enhance its cloud and artificial intelligence infrastructure in Sweden over the next two years.
This marks the largest investment by Microsoft in Sweden to date and includes a commitment to training approximately 250,000 individuals in AI skills, equivalent to 2.4% of the population, to strengthen the country's competitiveness.
According to Microsoft Vice Chair and President Brad Smith, this investment signifies more than just technological advancement; it represents a dedication to ensuring widespread access to the necessary tools and skills for Sweden's people and economy to excel in the era of AI.
As part of the investment, Microsoft plans to deploy 20,000 advanced graphics processing units (GPUs) at its data center sites in Sandviken, Gavle, and Staffanstorp, which will accelerate computer calculations. Smith was scheduled to meet with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson in Stockholm on Monday.
Furthermore, Microsoft is committed to promoting AI adoption across the Nordic region, which includes Denmark, Finland, Iceland, and Norway, in addition to Sweden.
