Manchester United's Mason Greenwood has joined La Liga side Getafe on a season-long loan deal.
The 21-year-old striker had been linked with a move to Lazio, but the deal collapsed on deadline day.
United confirmed last month that Greenwood would not play for the club again following their internal investigation into his arrest in January 2022 for attempted rape, controlling behaviour, and assault.
Greenwood’s New Challenge
Greenwood agreed to join Getafe on loan for one season, with the Spanish club obligated to purchase him for €20 million in the summer of the new year. Bonuses and extras worth €5 million are part of the arrangement as well.

Despite interest from teams like Besiktas, Lazio, and Atlético Madrid, Getafe (who finished 10th in La Liga previous season) was able to secure Greenwood's services. Greenwood had agreed to sign a permanent contract with Lazio before the two sides could not come to terms on salary.

At Getafe, Greenwood will play for Quique Sanchez Flores, who is known for his rigorous and defensive coaching style, and he hopes this will revitalize his career.
United’s Support for Greenwood
Manchester United confirmed Greenwood’s departure in a statement on their official website.
The statement read:
"Mason Greenwood has signed for La Liga side Getafe CF on a season-long loan, subject to international clearance. The move enables Greenwood to begin to rebuild his career away from Manchester United. The club will continue to offer its support to Mason and his family during this period of transition."

United also thanked Greenwood for his contribution to the club and wished him all the best for his future. United manager Erik ten Hag said:
“Mason is a talented player who has been with us since he was a kid. He has scored some important goals for us and we are grateful for that. However, we felt that it was best for him and for us to move on from this situation. We hope that he can find happiness and success at Getafe.”
