A man named Austine, along with his accomplices, stole wigs worth ₦20 million from a moving truck on the CMS-Marina Bridge in Lagos.
Lagos State Police representative Benjamin Hundeyin provided details about the theft in a statement on Thursday.
The incident happened on April 25 when Austine and his crew targeted a truck loaded with various human hair extensions.
Hundeyin mentioned that the theft occurred without the driver being aware as the truck passed over the CMS-Marina Bridge.
He further noted that Austine was apprehended in the Marina car park beneath the bridge after a tip-off.
To avoid capture, Benjamin reported that Austine jumped from the bridge into the car park and sustained injuries during his escape.
"He was found with the stolen items and taken to a hospital for appropriate medical care while under close police surveillance," Benjamin explained.
The police have initiated a manhunt to apprehend other members of his gang. Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has urged residents to stay vigilant and collaborate with security forces by reporting any suspicious behavior.
