The Labour Party's Lamidi Apapa faction has refuted allegations that it approached the presidential election tribunal to request the removal of the petition submitted by the group's nominee for president, Peter Obi.
The troubled Julius Abure group had earlier raised the alarm that Apapa and his team had visited the tribunal in Abuja to withdraw Obi's case contesting Bola Tinubu's victory.
However, Apapa said the article was purposefully fake and an "epistle of personal bitterness, ignorance, and complete unintelligent outburst."
Abayomi Arabambi, Apapa, the publicity secretary for the faction, claimed that Abure had been placed under house arrest by the Abuja high court "over confirmed allegations of forgery of court seal" and other things. She claimed that it is nothing new for him to resort to "cheap blackmail to gain public sympathy in order to cover up his criminal tracks."
Apapa asked Abure to show a copy of the letter that he or the Secretary signed asking the tribunal to dismiss the petition.
Apapa noted that the publishing was "a well-orchestrated plan by Abure to incite violence and chaos in order to make Nigeria ungovernable," adding that he and his team would not be deterred by "these wicked lies."
The Labour Party leader was reported in the statement as saying that he and his group would refrain from verbally combating individuals he called "pedestrian political misfits and despots," claiming that it was clear that "Abure is trying to whip up the sentiment on his travails."
He concluded that under his direction, the Labor Party joins Obi in the "mission to reclaim the mandate freely given to him and our party during the February 25th, 2023 Presidential, and National Assembly election."
