Mr. Segun Tomori, the Special Assistant on Media to the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake, has revealed the Federal Government's concerns that the activities of illegal miners have hindered lawfully authorised miners with licences covering four cadastral units from accessing the site for 16 years.
Tomori also mentioned that the Federal Government had closed down an illegal gold mine site in Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi State.
He emphasised that the action was part of the Federal Government's commitment to combat illegal mining and revitalise the sector to enhance Nigeria's economic status.
Tomori explained, "The operation involved removing illegal miners who have been preventing legally authorised miners with licences covering four cadastral units from accessing the site for 16 years."
