The Lebanese Resistance Brigades, a paramilitary group in Lebanon associated with Hezbollah, took responsibility on Saturday for a military operation against Israel in the southern part of Lebanon.

This marks the first announcement from the group, which was established by Hezbollah in 1997, since the Israeli war on Gaza.

The group consists of volunteer fighters from various religious sects in Lebanon.

According to a statement released by the Brigades on Friday, they initiated their involvement in the conflict by launching rockets at the Israeli 'Rweisat al-Qarn' site in the occupied Lebanese Shebaa Farms, achieving a “direct hit”.

Hezbollah and Israel have been engaging in frequent exchanges of fire since the Israel-Hamas war began last year.

Hezbollah claims that it is attacking Israel in support of Hamas, another group allied with Iran that initiated the conflict in Gaza with an attack into southern Israel on Oct. 7.

The leadership of the group has stated that they will cease their attacks once a ceasefire is established in Gaza.

They also assert that while they do not seek war, they are prepared for it.

Efforts to resolve the confrontation between Israel and Hezbollah through diplomatic means have not been successful thus far.

Both Hezbollah and the Lebanese government have rejected Israel’s demands to clear the border area in Lebanon of Hezbollah fighters.

The parliamentary bloc of Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, an ally of Hezbollah, expressed support for any international efforts aimed at ending Israel’s aggression against the Palestinian people in Gaza.

The bloc also reaffirmed their refusal to engage in discussions about creating buffer zones on Lebanon’s sovereign territory, whether in southern Lebanon or in the north.

Meanwhile, there continues to be cross-border fire in southern Lebanon. An Israeli machine gun from the village of Ghajar near Wazzani targeted a Lebanese army vehicle of the 'Humvee' type.

Reports indicate that the vehicle was hit directly by four bullets, but miraculously, the personnel inside escaped unharmed from the attack.
