The Home-Grown Parliamentary System Support Group, sponsoring an Essay contest has on Wednesday day, announced an extension of the submission deadline for the National Essay Competition on Parliamentary System.
In a statement, the group said the submission deadline had been extended from June 12 to July 31, 2024.
This national essay competition follows the presentation of bills by a group of members of the House of Representatives in February, seeking to amend the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 to transition from the current presidential system to a parliamentary system at all levels of government.
Also, the national discuss on the essay topic by relevant stakeholders has been rescheduled for Monday, September 9 in Abuja.
The statement added that the National Essay Competition was open to all Nigerian students in tertiary institutions globally.
It highlighted overwhelming interest from Nigerian students worldwide since the competition began last month, with many entries received on the essay portal.
It read, “Appeals from a cross-section of students for an extension of the submission deadline prompted the decision for an extension.
“The lawmakers aim for the presentation of the bills to ignite and provoke a national conversation about the future of Nigerian governance systems, ensuring robust public debates, stakeholder consultations, expert analyses, and a thorough and informed decision-making process.
“The initiative also seeks to raise awareness about significant development and encourage constructive dialogue on the potential implications of the proposed constitutional alterations.”
